Nature
THE TOWER OF CERRANO, A PROTECTED SEA AREA
Distance 44 km
If you prefer a wild and pristine beach, the beach of Cerrano, within the municipality of Pineto, is exactly such a place. The beach is part of the protected area Torre del Cerrano and is overlooked by this ancient and evocative tower, which can be visited. Inside the tower there is a well kept Marine Museum. The beach is bordered by a pine forest and the waters are fresh and full of aquatic fauna.
THE GRAN SASSO NATIONAL PARK
Distance 60/80 km
In Abruzzo, there is a true natural treasure: the Gran Sasso and Monti della Laga National Park. It is one of the largest protected areas in Europe. Among green forests, rich flora and significant species of animals such as wolves, bears and golden eagles, the Gran Sasso National Park is an unusual destination. You can explore it along trekking paths in the middle of nature, but that is not all: inside the park, there are many medieval villages of incredible beauty, hills full of olive trees and solitary hermitages.
THE LAKE OF CAMPOTOSTO
Distance 80 km
It is the largest artificial lake in all of Abruzzo, a wonderful nature reserve included in the Gran Sasso and Monti della Laga National Park, where it is possible to spend a day in the countryside relaxing or doing sports such as trekking, horse riding, windsurfing, kitesurfing and kayaking.
Villages
THE VILLAGE OF CIVITELLA DEL TRONTO
Distance 30 km
Civitella del Tronto is considered part of the most beautiful villages in Italy. It features one of the largest and most majestic fortresses ever built. It is 500 metres long and stretches along a wild and rocky ridge. Thanks to its strategic position, it was one of the last strongholds of the Bourbon kingdom in Italy.
COLONNELLA
Distance 10 km
Colonnella is a pretty village of just 3500 inhabitants, located on the border with the Marche region. The village is 312 metres above sea level. From its historical centre, you can enjoy wonderful views of Abruzzo and Marche.
ASCOLI PICENO
Distance 40 km
Ascoli Piceno is a splendid city of medieval origin, famous for its towers, being referred to the City of the Hundred Towers. The historical centre is almost entirely made of travertine, which makes the city so beautiful and precious. Not to be missed are the squares from the Renaissance, among the most beautiful in the Marche region, and the magnificent Piazza del Popolo. The right place to enjoy the local delicacy, the olives all'ascolana!
Spirituality
LORETO
Distance 80 km
Loreto is a splendid village that towers over the surrounding Marche countryside. The Sanctuary of the Holy House of the Virgin Mary is to be found here, which houses the relic of the ancient Nazareth house of the Virgin Mary. The Basilica is one of the most famous places of worship of all Christianity, particularly for worship of the Virgin Mary, and is a truly beautiful and evocative location.
SANCTUARY OF SAINT GABRIELE
Distance 60 km
At the foot of the Gran Sasso lies the Sanctuary dedicated to San Gabriele dell'Addolorata, the patron saint of Abruzzo. Every year more than two million faithful from all over the world come here to honour the Saint's remains. The Sanctuary is of ancient origin and inside it you will also find the Museum of Contemporary Sacred Art featuring works of considerable cultural importance.
GASTRONOMIC EXCELLENCES
From the sea to the hills in the Vibrata Valley, along routes that cross villages and beautiful landscapes, you will explore and through the senses. Using both taste and smell to savour the crops of the hills and the typical products of the area, such as fresh and aged cheeses, extra virgin olive oil, and vegetables. Along with typical cold cuts coming from ancient production methods using local pork as well as the great local wines that reveal a story, which express the unique emotions of a territory rich in gastronomic excellence like few others.
Around Tortoreto, the hills are covered with precious vines for the production of wines such as Montepulciano d'Abruzzo, Trebbiano and Cerasuolo d'Abruzzo. These wines are perfectly suited to be tasted in conjunction with typical local dishes such as Maccheroncini alla Chitarra and Pallottine or fish stew.
Even the extra virgin olive oil deserves a mention: this area is rich in olive groves from which we obtain a fabulous local olive oil, the Pretuziano of the Teramo hills.
